Nothing like my companion telling a man she can give him a shot in the Bum! update for Meagan 7/22/13

Buenos dias,

So the story behind the title of this email.. Cuz I am sure many of you are wondering. We had a lesson with a family that we are teaching and we invited a member to come with us. As we are getting out of the car the dad of the family pulls up and starts telling us about his day... (in spanish) THis is a very crucial part of the story. And so he continues and tells us about a story. What we thought he was telling us was that he had to get a shot in the bum earlier that day. I was getting most of the story but I could nt understand all of it. Thanks to his lovely hand motions of sticking himself in the bum, I was able to recognize that that was where the shot was. Well, my companion has been studying the last two years in nursing school and was telling him... in very broken spanish... that she remembers having to give people shots like that. well to make a long story short. Both Sister Vargha and I didnt understand the part where he hadnt been able to find someone to give him and shot and that Sister Vargha had told him that she could do it. Tooo funny. Walking into the house I remember turning to Sister Vargha and saying that I was pretty sure that she just agreed to give hime the shot and she was a little caught off guard. Luckily we had the member with us and we were able to straighten out the situation. Hna Vargha agreed to give him the shot but the member was about to come to our rescue and say that that was most likely against the mission rules!!!! Lets just say, Hna Vargha and I were laughing pretty hard after that one.

WOW! What a week. My companion and I have really seen the hand of the Lord in our lives. Some of which have really emphasised the sense of humor that our Father in Heaven has.

So Hna Vargha and I have really focused on finding new people to teach. We know that as we have faith Heavenly Father will guide us us to those who need our message.

So one day we set aside 4 hours to be able to go knocking on doors. We decided to go to a few apartment buildings in the area. The first door we knocked on was a precious little family. A mom and dad and a little 2 yr old little girl. They invited us in and we shared a message of the Plan of Salvation. Families can be together forever because Heavenly Father loves us and has created this plan so we can have happiness in this life and the life after this one. They were so interested. It was powerful!!! We set up a return appt and they were really trying to figure out a day that would work best for them. It was amazing!!! Unfortunately we cannot continue to teach them because they do not speak in spanish but every person who grows closer to Christ is amazing. So the elders who teach in english will be going over this week to teach this wonderful family. This was one of the stories that taught us the humor of Heavenly Father because we acked them what their last names were and they were a Ramirez and a Gonzalez but neither of them spoke Spanish. So Hna Vargha and I decided that we needed to get a little bit more specific. Instead of praying to find people to teach, we decided we would pray to find people who spoke spanish.

So that exact same night we are knocking in the same apartment complex and we had about 10 more minutes until we needed to head home for the night. We were on the last door in a building of doors that we knocked and we were really praying that we would find someone. So we went forth in faith and knocked on the door. And a sweet lady opened the door. The only thing that we could get out of our mouths before she invited us in was that we were missionaries. So we came in and sat down and she shared with us that earlier that day she had prayed to see that God really loved her. She almost didnt open the door because it was so late and she was home alone. But she felt like she needed to and there we were standing on her doorstep. I felt the Spirit so strongly! I cant even fully explain how amazing it was. She was an answer to our prayers and we were an answer to hers. And she was watching a Spanish novela and so we had hope that she would speak spanish! We taught that Heavenly Father loves us and has shown his love for us since the very beginning. She explained how she has been having health problems and has often woke up feeling as she was about to die. It was amazing to testify that God loves her and that whatever she may be experiencing at this moment that through our message she can feel comfort and purpose... Powerful. We scheduled a return appt and we asked her if she spoke spanish to make sure we would be able to continue teaching her. Welp, she spoke Spanish but perfers English and just enjoys watching the spanish novelas... Too funny. but ya know . It was still amazing to see her eyes light up when she saw God answer her prayers. And she wants to invite her mom to our lesson this week, who speaks spanish, so we are hoping that we can continue to meet with her.

So I am learning to be more and more specific with my prayers. Not only am I praying for people who speak Spanish, I am now praying we will find people to teach in Spanish!!!

There have been so many other amazing experiences this week!!!! One day Sister Vargha and I went on a spiritual wild goose chase which involed us both getting the impression that we needed to leave one area. Neither of us had any idea where we needed to go so we started driving and felt like we needed to go home. We then were directed to stop by this old investigators home but no one was home. Instantly we both felt that we needed to go knock on the neighbors home... So we did. We awkwardly knock and a lady who speaks spanishcomes out and we introduce ourselves as missionaries and she tells us that she is already meeting with missionaries. The other set of sisters that work in our branch!! So cool. We still dont know why we were supposed to go over there but we are praying hard for her. Heavenly Father definitly has something in the works for her.

The craziest thing that I have seen this week was walking into a family's home and seeing that they are cutting up a cow leg on their kitchen table. My companion was def caught off guard. I almost busted out laughing. Probably another one of the funniest experiences of my mission :)

Also, this week I found out that 2 weeks ago I received a new missionary calling. I am now a Sister Training Leader and the church has had it recorded like that and I havent known. ON Friday we had a meeting with some of the missionaries and my MTC companion, Hna Seaborn, comes up to me and starts telling me about all these things that she already has organized for exchanges and such and I must have given her a really weird face cuz she then asks, " You're the other Sister Training leader right?" and I had no idea. So she talked to the assistants to the mission president and that night I was called to see if I would accept this new calling that I had already had for 2 weeks. Super funny! And so now for the next 4 weeks I will be doing 48 hr companion exchanges so I will be getting to see new areas!!!! Super fun. I am looking forward to it all!

Welp, my time is up! I love you all so so much!!! Thanks for all your love and support!!!!

I know that this church is true. I know that I am where I need to be so that I can learn the things I need to know for the rest of my life. I am so happy to be a missionary. I have never felt GOd's love for me so strongly. I know He loves all of you as well. He anwers prayers and has a plan for us.

Con carino,
Hna Jarvis
