Buenos dias querida familia! 5/6/13 Meagan

Hola todos! Como estan? Les extrano muchisimo! ( Hi Everyone! How are you all? I miss you alot!)

This week has been a good week! My mission was selected to do a pilot program for the church called JustServe which means getting out into the community and getting more involved and with this. as missionaries, we have been asked to do 10 hrs of service each week. So my district really pushed to get our 10 hours of service and then also 20 lessons for the week. It has been exhausting and kinda chalenging but we were able to achieve our goal! We did 10 hrs of service and just barely made it to 20 lessons. It feels good to feel so accomplished!! And I love service so much. It is very relaxed and it is easier to talk to people in a casual setting rather than knocking on doors.

Also this week we have really been trying to find new people to teach. Before we had a lot of people to teach but not a lot of them were progressing and Sister Hill and I really want to find a family to teach and we are not gonna find a family if we are not looking and so we did a lot of tracting (most of the people were nice to us too :) and we worked hard to get referrals from members because it is the members that truly know who is ready to hear our message.

One day we were tracting and we saw a man outside cooking in his garage. We decided that we would go talk to him and that we would introduce ourselves and as we walked closer and closer you could see that he had a newly butchered pig that he was cooking for a wedding(we later found out). The big was all spaced out over two tables that he had set up in his garage and he had a "homemade" stove that he was cooking out of. It was one of those large metal barrels that he cut in half and cut two holes in it to provide for airflow. He had a massive, massive pot that he had all the meat in and after talking for a bit he offered to let us try it. And you dont! turn down food. Ever. Especially in the hispanic culture. So he fished out a big chunk of this pig and cut it up using the same knife that he had used to chop the pig up in the first place. Wow what an adventure that was! It really tasted yummy but I couldnt get over seeing all that had taken place to cook this pig and for me to be eating it.... What a crazy experience. we stayed takling to him for a little while longer where he offered us some more pig and gave us 2 very hot chile peppers. What a great experience. And before we ate his food and talked to him for a little bit he was pretty adiment about us not sharing a message with him but after all this talk he said that it would be fine if we came back next weekend to share a message with him and his family. What a blessing and it is something I will probably never forget. And he also invited us to the wedding. Now that would have been cool haha.

This week we also had interviews with Pres. Toombs(Mission Pres). That was super fun. It was just a quick 10 minute interview to make sure everything is going well but it was fun. He gave me some really great advice and I have really been trying to put it in practice this week.
We taught Santos, Juanita and Chantae the word of wisdom... Sister Hill just started going so I followed along suit. I knew that they drank coffee so I was ready to get it. But after we talked about commandments and the blessings we receive when we follow the commandments, I think they were really able to understand. We committted them to follow the word of wisdom and not drink any coffee this week and they agreed to do it :) So Sister Hill and I are praying hard core that they will be able to recognize the blesssings they receive and that Heavenly Father will protect their family. All in all it was a great lesson!! And I am really happy we were able to talk about it and resolve their concerns!

That is something really important I learned this week! Follow the Spirit and Heavenly Father truly will guide us in what words we need to say. It has been a while since I taught La Palabra de Sabiduria (WoW) in spanish but the words jsut seemed to flow and the Spirit was very strong! I am so grateful for that gift. I have experienced that twice this week. Once with Santos y Juanita and the other when we taught a man named Hector on his doorstep. As missionaries we are truly just the mouthpieces for the Lord. He will direct us in the words that we need to say to help others come unto Christ.

I love you all very very much. I am gonna send some pictures so sorry if the letter is a little short.
Hna Jarvis
