"Read that Book!" "Read that Book!": update Meagan Jarvis 6/3/13

Hi Family!!!!

I love you all so much and miss you all so much. I hope all is well!

I just wanted to tell you all about my wonderful week!!!

So as you know, I am training again. It is a pretty neat experience. I have never felt the hand of the Lord so strongly in my life. It truly is amazing how, if I don't know what to say, the words just pop into my head and I say them and the effect that they have. I know that I am truly an instrument in the hands of the Lord. It have often found myself praying this week to receive guidance and before I know it the answer is right there before us what we need to do, where we need to be and what we need to teach.

My companion, Hna Smith, is fantastic. Like all of my other companions she really pushes me to be a better missionary. She is struggling with the Spanish but just in the last week I have seen how the Lord truly does "qualify the called." It has been amazing. I will attach a picture of us. But she is super adorable.

So some really amazing stories that I have to share. This week we have truly been blessed!

Jueves 30 de Mayo
We went to a trailer park where we had some people that we were teaching. We had 10 more minutes before we had to leave for a meeting and there was one more house that we could visit and it was a beautiful day so we just decided to walk! We were walking around a corner and we saw a man standing outside of his truck. We didn't think anything of it and just said "Hola." He then responded with "Buenos tardes, Como estan" (Good afternoon, how are you all?) And we proceeded to talk in spanish. It totally caught him off guard because we knew Spanish. It was the funniest thing. Not many people peg us to know Spanish which is pretty fun most days. We then talked to him for about 5 minutes and we explained who were we are and what we do as missionaries. He was interested and we asked if it would be ok to share a message with him. And he said sure. We shared a quick message. Taught him about the Book of Mormon and gave him a little pamphlet to read more. He was great. He wanted the direction to the church and he ended up writing the address on the back of his car. Literally on the pant. It was hilarious. I was like... We have a piece of paper if you would like and he said no this would be alright and just proceeded to write it on the car. I was dying inside. We were also able to meet his wife and his daughter. We are hoping that the husband and wife will be able to come to our English class on Tuesday :) What a neat experience :)

Viernes 31 de Mayo
We had a lesson with one of our investigators who has come to church the last two weeks!!! We couldn't enter into his home because he was the only one home but he was very understanding and was really glad that we take such precautions. I really feel like he is my long lost Mexican Grandpa. The lesson before this one we had left him with a reading assignment from the Book of Mormon and he was so proud. He didn't finish the chapter but he was taking notes. It was the coolest thing. None of our investigators have ever taken notes before. I felt so happy. And he really appreciated how clear everything was presented. For our lesson we talked about the Gospel of Jesucristo. He was so receptive and really enjoyed the lesson. We taught about faith and repentance. And he had some really great faith building experiences that he shared with us. Then we talked about baptism and how Jesucristo is our perfect example of baptism and we find the record of his baptism in the bible. It was great. Hna Smith then invited him to be baptised and he said yes. We are going to continue to teach him more and he is really excited for all the things he is learning. We invited him to church on Sunday but he said that he had to go to Denver but that he was already planning on next Sunday to come. Cool Story!! HE CAME TO CHURCH! He said that he thought it was more important to come to church than his plans in Denver so he changed some things around to come to church!!! How amazing. This man is great and I can already see how the Lord is blessing him!

Sabado 1 de Junio
We finally found an investigator who we have not been able to meet with in about 2 weeks. We were just about to leave when He and his aunt pulled up. It was great. We shared a message with him outside. It was great. He had a friend over and there were about 8 little kids who were listening to our lesson. It was the greatest feeling. We shared a message about testimonies and the importance of being examples to others. I think it was a great lesson. Afterwards we committed everyone to be an example and seek opportunities to share their testimonies. I went to the kids and asked them if the would do it and all of them said yes. I asked them if they were gonna pray tonight and they all shouted yes! Then I asked them if the would read in the scriptures and the screamed Yes! Then I asked "Who wants to say the closing prayer?" And every single one of those kids screamed and the top of their lungs,"MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" For seriously 2 minutes. I couldn't hear anymore, they were screaming so so loud. I couldn't contain the joy that I felt seeing 8 little kids line up to say a prayer. It was so loud that some of the neighbors shut their doors. Hilarious! We finally got them to quiet down and a little girl who was 3 years old said the closing prayer as Hna Smith was whispering her the words. So precious! As we were leaving and walking back to the car... All the kids starting shouting for us to come back and then they starting shouting "Read that book, read that book" over and over again, talking about the Book of Mormon. I almost starting crying. It was such an amazing experience. Earlier in the lesson a pass along card had fallen out of the Book of Mormon that I was holding and the kids were all excited. They all wanted one. It was adorable. To calm them down I told them that they could all have one. So after they stopped shouting "Read that book" for 3 minutes. They ran to our car and lined up to get a pass along card. One little 9 yr old girl asked if she could have all 3 of the different kinds and I knelt down and asked her what she wanted to do with them. She then told me she wanted to put them on her wall so that she could look at them every day. How can you say no to something precious like that?! Ya just cant. She especially loved the one with the temple on it. I hope one day soon we can teach them about the temple if only for that precious little girl. I love this work. I have never felt the power of Gods love so strongly in my life than when I have been here inviting others to come unto Christ and develop their own personal relationships with him. What a blessing it is to be able to share this Gospel with the people here in Colorado.

Domingo 2 de Junio
they switched up our branch presidency. SO so crazy! No one was expecting it. Our previous president wasn't fluent in Spanish and has been working the last year to build up his spanish again. He was released because we had a family move here from Mexico about 4 months ago and they thought it would be good for someone who knows the language and understands the culture to be able to be the Branch President. It was a shock but I am excited to see how this affects the branch. I think it will grow so fast. On Sunday we also had about 70 people come to church. 2 of the Less Active families that we teach came. When I saw the room fill up with people, that was enough to get the water works going. Heavenly Father blesses us every day with tender mercies and I am so grateful to see the blessings that come from working hard to bring others closer to Christ.

I love you all very very much!

Les amo tanto!

Hna Jarvis
