Well to say this week has been a little crazy would be an understatement but do I care? Not a bit! Wanna know why?! I have been staying in a hotel for the last week. Talk about magic! We had to move out of the house we were living in and we were working on getting an apartment but things weren't moving fast enough and so there was about a week that we wouldn't have anywhere to live so we have been living in a Days Inn. Talk about HEAVEN. You all know how much I love sleeping? I have never slept so good in my life! We seriously have queen size beds, 4 pillows each, a continental breakfast(wahoo for free food! Especially as a missionary), rocking awesome AC, and a sweet lady named Jackie who makes are beds and gives us new towels every few days. Talk about spoiled. I have just decided that this is a tender mercy of the Lord and He really... Really... REALLY... loves His daughters. I mean I don't think I could fully explain how happy this bed makes me. Every night I come home smiling because I know that I will be sleeping on a little piece of Heaven. Also the members have been sending us home with little goodies, like leftover carne asada and tortillas and avacado and salsa verde and so we have been able to make it by for the most part on free meals. Which is another tender mercy because I was running a little low on funds because I had to buy new tennis shoes... (Now that is a long story!) Yeah and did I tell you the bed is magical!!!! It kinda totally makes up for sleeping on an air mattress for 3 months and a fouton for 3 more! Just give me a week and a half in a hotel bed and let me tell you! You could not meet a happier Hermana Jarvis. But seriously... Best sleep ever! Hahaha
But the bed doesn't even compare to the happiness of the work. We have seen so many blessings this week. The work was a little bit slow But the Lord always provides a way for us to find His children who need a message of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.
On Wednesday we went to contact a lady who a member had referred us too. She was so sweet! We shared a message about Jesus Christ and the amazing blessings He has provided us and she shared some very special memories of her own with us. IT was a very powerful meeting we had with her. A few days later we get a call from the man from church who had asked us to go visit her and he was so happy. They had met up to talk and he couldn't stop talking about how much she really appreciated that we came over. It was wonderful! The man even gave us a precious little gift because he was so grateful for our work. We have an appt this week to go visit her again and I am excited to see what she has to say! What a blessing.
On Saturday we had a return appt with a man we had met the week before and we were really excited to see if He had a chance to pray. Unfortunately he wasn't home and so we decided we would knock on a couple of doors before we went off to our next adventure. Three doors down for the man's house and we knocked on a door and a young lady opens the door. She was sweet. We introduced ourselves and asked she would be interested in hearing more. Instantly she said yes and it totally caught me off guard. Hna Smith and I looked at each other and I remember thinking, " God is so great!" WE shared a quick 10 min lesson with her on her door step and it was great! We have plans to meet up with her later this week. I am excited!!!
On Tuesdays we teach an English class and this week we were just a small little group. Only a few members showed up and we began our class. One of the Sisters pulled me aside and said she had a surprise for Hna Smith. I had figured as much because the week before was Hna Smiths bday and it was so precious. At the end of our English class we sang happy birthday in English and cut into the most amazing carrot cake I have ever had in my life. Hna Smith looked so grateful! She really loves the people here and the people really love her. Hna Smith is having a hard time with the language but the members and our investigators have really worked hard to help her feel included. It is amazing!
Oh my goodness! Was anyone able to watch the Mission President Fireside yesterday?! Talk about powerful!!!! The work of the Lord is really hastening and it is amazing to see everything happening from the front lines. I am pretty sure that from April till now we have gained about 4,000 new missionaries! That is crazy!!! So many miracles are happening right now. Not only for the missionaries but also for the members! It is amazing to see how much stress the General Authorities are putting on the members to be missionaries! One of my favorite quotes was from Neil L. Andersen's talk and a person said, "The Lord won't let us fail, if we do our best." Sometimes it is easy to have fear. I have fear every day to knock on doors and talk to people but I have proved it. IF we are doing our best the Lord will not let us fail! He will provide the way to help us help others. He has placed people in our lives for a purpose and as we invite others to come unto Christ we will feel a greater love for those who are around us. What an amazing opportunity it is to be living in a time where so many miracles are talking place!
Oh Mom!!! Guess what I found?!?! MY CAMERA!!! It Is amazing what moving can do! I am pretty sure that was another tender mercy of the Lord.
So we had some computer problems at the other library so we had to come to a different one and on the way over here we stopped at wal mart to do some shopping and guess who we ran into?! It was amazing! It was the girl from Saturday who we met with! How crazy! It was awesome :) She is such a sweet heart. SO grateful.
Things are going really well :) I am loving the work! Sometimes I get overwhelmed but then I remember that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and that I have a purpose to fulfill on my mission. What an amazing opportunity it is to serve. Thanks for all the support I have received. The letters are gratefully appreciated. I will work on writing everyone back asap!
Love you all,
Hna Jarvis
