Ciao tutti!
(Hi everyone)
So many things happen in one day as a missionary I don't know how to get them all in 1 e-mail. I usually have my notes with me but I forgot them so it what I lack in words I'll make up for in pictures! Those are all worth 1,000 words, right?
I feel like I haven't said anything about my district but just know they're great! We found out that Anziano (Elder) Luening is not going to be leaving with us on Tuesday. There was a problem with his visa so he will be going back to Canada to serve in Vancouver so he can visit the consulate while he's there. I think it's super awesome and he's obviously meant to be there for a while! Let's just hope he keeps up on his Italian! Speaking of which. I'm definitely starting to freak out. I'm going to be in another country A week from today. How crazy is that!?
Sorella Killpack and I have 4 investigators and 1 less active member that we're working with right now. They are so great! Their names are Luca, Angela, Hilda, Jose, and Sammo. Luca, Angela, and Hilda are our teachers that we have been teaching for a while. They are so incredible and it has been amazing to learn how to focus on them and having the spirit rather than just have a lesson. Sammo and Jose are Anziano Berg and Luening. They are the 2 Canadians in our district. I thought it was going to be really hard to teach them but we've all really tried to take it seriously and focus. I have learned amazing things from those lessons.
Friday we got out travel plans! Wooh! Only 6 more days till I'm on the plane to Italy and 7 days till I actually get there. I'm definitely gonna need to stock up on some motion sickness medicine :/ But I'm going with all the missionaries who are going to Milan. That's like 25 missionaries. How amazing! I'm so excited! This Sunday we had district meetings with the branch presidency and talked about preparing to leave. Our first counselor challenged us to buy a copy of the Book of Mormon and get pass along cards to hand out. We go from SLC to Dallas to London (what what!!) and then to Milan. I can barely contain my excitement!
Sunday was fast Sunday/mission conference/devotional. Love it! Between Sunday and then last night's devotional we learned a lot about doctrine and focusing on the Spirit. Yesterday Fratello Cena gave us a really powerful lesson on obedience. He used Alma 47. The story of Lehonti and Amalickiah. It talks about Amalickiah trying to get Lehonti to come down to the bottom of the hill but Lehonti says no. Finally Amalickiah gets him to just come down a little and kills him. This is the same way it is with Satan. Satan tells us to not obey the Word of Wisdom or the Law of Chastity (these big important things) and we say no. But then he says, "Fine. Just come down a little bit." Basically, don't read your scriptures today, don't wake up on time, don't go to church this Sunday, I'm tired. We say fine. And that's when we give Satan the control. As soon as we let our standards drop a little we give up our agency as well.
So some highlights!
-I met an Elder Chapman. He's friends with Josh McElheney (sorry if I spelled that wrong).
-I got to see Erick Matthews a few more times and see him off! I can't believe he's already in the field.
-I saw Annilyn Schill! So great! She teaches Russian right down the hall from my class :)
-Today as the new missionaries were coming in this huge group of German-bound missionaries stood on both sides of the sidewalk and made a bridge for the new elders. Then when the got to the end the yelled "It's a trap!" and just hugged them! So presh!
-My district and I love translating songs to Italian. Songs like Love from parent trap, teardrops on my guitar and I wanna dance with somebody.
-We've also written our own spiritual rap song. But it's in English...
Not a highlight but I seem to have lost my scriptures. We'll see what happens on that one! Hopefully they'll turn up, especially since I just bought a new case for them!
I love you all! Except for those in the Jarvis home the next time you'll hear from me I'll be in Italy!
You're also so great!! Keep the faith! The mission home address should be on the blog along with instructions for how to send packages for cheap. I think the address missionemilano.blogspot.com. Hopefully Mom can find it and put it with this post!
Love you all!!
Sorella Jarvis
