Happy Highlight of the Week!!! Look at these babies :) update for Meagan 9/23/13

That's right!!!! Broomfield Days Car Show :)

And this was a service opportunity!!!!

The maroon Corvette is a 1977 Sting Ray. Beautiful, I tell you. Absolutely beautiful!!!

The other 2 are both 1965 Sting Rays if I remember correctly. One of them is 99.9% authentic condition... Recently a car like that sold for 3 million dollars! I was in heaven. I'll send another email with some of the other cars!!!

At the end of the show, Sister Mangum and I were walking around handing out some of the free samples things that we had left over and we talked to the man who owned the authentic 1965 Corvette and jokingly one of the ladies who was with him said,"Do you want one?'' Talking about the vettes and man if only she wasn't joking. Seriously... One of the best service opportunities yet!

So this week I am sending home lots and lots of pictures to explain the kind of week that I have had. This is a road that the water completely washed out. I have never seen this happen before... I didn't even know that it was possible. You could literally stick you hand under the asphalt. CRAZY I tell you!

And this is where all that water went as it was running down the hill... We were asked to come to this home on Wednesday. They were not members of the church and needed a lot of help. I have never seen anything like it. In total they had about 8 feet of water in their basement and 4-5 feet of mud that just pooled in their basement. It was insane. We got to this house around 11am, had a half hour lunch, and stayed there until about 6pm. We worked HARD! Never have I ever been so sore in my life. All the drywall that you see behind me... There is none... those were all walls when we got there. Can you imagine?!

This picture below is what was left after the 12... count them 12 dump trucks had already come and cleared the street. We were literally carrying bucket after bucket full of mud out of the home. I have never seen anything like it in my life. At the home we were at before they had a lot a lot of water in it still but they didn't have anywhere near the amount of mud that was in this home. Nick, the owner of the home, was a rock star and just kept working and working and working...

I have never been so muddy in my life!!!! Covered! It doesn't even seem real... Funny story. We had to cancel our dinner that night because we just couldn't leave (well we didn't want to leave) and instead, after we found a place to stop working for the day, Sister Seaborn, Sister Cropper, Elder Dionicio, Elder Peace, Elder Gable, Sister Mangum and I went to dinner at an Italian restaurant (Jess- You should be proud) called Buca di Beppo. Looking like this! I felt bad but we were just so exhausted and hungry that we couldn't resist. The staff there was super understanding and actually gave us half of our meal free. No joke! It was amazing. So this $60 dinner was only $30. I love kind people and great food!!!! Apparently this is one in Salt Lake. We will have to go there one day because the pasta was absolutely amazing!

This week we really didn't teach many lessons, or knock on doors, or the "traditional" missionary things but I have never felt like such a successful missionary as those times that we have been tearing out carpet, shoveling out mud, and just being supportive of those who have lost so much because of the flooding here in Colorado. It is devastating to see all the destruction that has taken place but I am so grateful that I have been called to serve as a full time missionary and have the capability to help others. I have never felt so humbled, so blessed, so small, and so grateful in my life. Please pray for those here in Colorado. It will be a long time before things get back to "normal" here. Some of the people that I worked with in Greeley have lost everything... I don't know how someone recovers from this...

I love you all. I am so happy that you are my friends and family and support me in all that I do. Please stay safe and remember that it is through the hard times that we truly grow and become the people who Heavenly Father would have us be. Work hard, obey the commandments, come unto Christ, and stay on the path.

Con carino,
Hermana Jarvis

This is when we are at dinner at Buca di Beppo's :)

I keep remembering all these great stories from the week.

A couple of the sisters and I went for lunch at Wendy's between service projects. I have ran out of money for the month and so I couldn't buy anything for myself. But don't worry the other sisters helped me out. But this older gentleman had overheard our conversation and offered to buy me lunch but I declined because the sisters had already gotten me something. At the end of our lunch we were about to clean up when that same gentleman brought over a tray of small frosty's for each one of us and expressed how grateful he was to us that we were out serving. It was so so precious. I love people!!!

This is a road that is near my house that was washed away. 3 different cars drove into it before emergency help was able to reach them.... How insane is that. One of them is actually in the hospital after trying to get out of his truck and prevent others from doing what he did when another truck came in and hit him. He was able to climb up the bank and flag down first responders before he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital with multiple fractures in his spine. Crazy!!!!

  1. I agree momtoeldermunson. Such tragedy but still there are generous people willing to look out for the missionaires with such devastation around them. I hope to follow up with Meagan to see how the accident victim is.
