"So the verdict is in..." Sister Jarvis' email from 12/21/12

Hi family!!!

I wasn't able to get any letter out today...I am so sorry! I will do better next week. Today we had a service project cleaning the Provo Temple and by the time we got back to the residence I was exhausted and took a 2 hour nap...

So the verdict is in... The ankle is broken. It is only a little itty bitty fracture which 4 people had to look at in order to determine. But since the sprain was so bad and the fracture wasn't bad at all the treatment is the same for both things. So I have been on crutches since Monday and will hopefully only have them a day or two longer and then I have one of those ugly black boots. Let me tell you! It sure is one heck of a fashion statement! But I am really lucky! I only have to be in it for 6 weeks and that is just about how much time I have left in the MTC... If I would have fallen one week later then I probably would have been delayed at the MTC and that would have just been terrible. You cannot go out into the mission field with a boot on... There is an elder in my zone who found out he had a stress fracture and has been here since Oct 3rd and still has a few more weeks here because it hasn't healed yet. I feel really sad for him. I love the MTC but 9 weeks is more than enough time to be here. I am getting super excited for the work. I am so ready to be out helping others!

So I broke my ankle by walking down a flight of stairs. I was seriously telling my companions that I had a daymare that I missed the first step and I had just finished my story when I was on the last step and my ankle just didn't want to support me... I was so bummed. It didn't hurt too bad. It was just super embarrassing because everyone had just gotten out of lunch... So I sat on the cold ground waiting for a golf cart to come pick us up and it drove us the the BYU health center to get x-rays! My companions and I get out a lot hahaha I kinda love it! Except for whole medical reasons behind it all! After the x-rays we came back to the MTC and set up an apt to go to the podiatrist and we had to go out again that day. Luckily we didn't have to miss any classes or anything! What a blessing. I also have some pain meds that I use to sleep and I stick to ibprofen during the day so that I don't get sleepy.

The week has been hard but my companions are seriously the greatest and so are the Elders in my district. They help me carry everything and even get my tray for me at dinner! I am so blessed!

I am so grateful to be here serving as a missionary. It is the best decision I have made! And I am so excited for Jessica! How cool is it that she is going to ITALY!!! They teach 56 languages here at the MTC and by April 2013 there will be 2000 sisters alone here at the MTC which is how many people we have total here right now. I love it!!!!

This last week I was also able to meet Sister Elaine Dalton, general young women president! And a member of the 79 came to the devotional on tuesday! On Christmas day we will have the Prophet or another member  of the quorum of the 12. SWEET!!! I am so excited. We also get to watch 2 non-church movies! Holler!

I love you all!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS,

Hermana Jarvis
