Hi everyone!
How are things going?! That is so great for Ian! I am really proud :) So they made it to states? or just played in the final 4? I was confused. I loved the pictures though! I have been bragging about him to everyone I know. One of our new investigators even asked me to so him the pics of Ian the next time we go and teach him.
This week has been one of the greatest weeks! Monday started off really great(3/4/13). I really love P-days. Most of the time Hna Earl and I just hang out with the member that we live with and a girl named Emily, that is in her ward. She reminds me a lot of Gabbie. She is 13 and super chill so we sometimes will go get smoothies or a bite to eat and then come home and play board games and have fun. I love P-days! Then we were able to have 3 lessons that night which is pretty difficult because we only have 3 hours to be out but it was a really great way to start off the week.
Which was followed by an even better day on Tuesday! We had 6 lessons total that day, which is the most that Hna Earl has ever gotten in a day. It was really Awesome. We were super blessed.
Wednesday we only had 1 lesson but we were able to visit with a lot of people and it wasnt bad. Wednesdays we also have our district meetings where we just get together as a district and do some role playing and talk about our purpose. We got some new missionaries in our district from this last transfer so that was pretty cool getting to know them. Elder Marble has been out less than 3 weeks and he is a 18yr old elder. It's pretty awesome. We then got lunch at this place called Cafe Mexicallys which is basically just like Cafe Rio so I love it. Jess I think you would enjoy it but it isnt quite as good as Cafe Rio.
Thursday was awesome too. We received a referral from some (English) Elders who live more south than us and they were out tracting one day and they came across a family that spoke Spanish and one of the Elders can speak a little bit of Spanish and set up an appt for Thursday. The lesson went super great. We were able to get 3 new investigators from that one referral and we have a return appt for tomorrow. It is so awesome. Thursdays we also volunteer at the local food bank for 3 hours which I super love. Service is so much fun! And it is pretty great helping out. It seems like it is about twice the size of the Verona Food Bank so they help out a ton of people. I really enjoy it. We then had another lesson with a little 8 yr old girl who wants to get baptized She is super great! and is really learning a lot. Her family isn't very active so she is really a wonderful example to them. And because of her we have been able to teach her dad who is really skeptical about a lot of things but this Sunday(3/10/13) they were all able to come to church. From this one little girl we were able to get her sister there who is inactive and all of her kids and the her mom, who is inactive, and her dad who is investigating. It was an amazing experience. We are hoping that in April we will be able to have her baptized The only thing that is holding her back now is church attendance and we are working on that. That night we had dinner with The Branch President and his wife (the Hatch Family) and it was super yummy. Pres Hatch served his mission in Chile so he speaks spanish pretty well so that is why he is the branch pres. But anyway. When we have dinner with them it is one of our only balanced and healthyish meal of the week so we are always looking forward to dinner with them. Then after dinner we had another lesson. Another super duper great day!
Friday was beautiful. We were able to get in 4 lessons and we had 3 hours for weekly planning. I enjoy planning because I tend to just make a lot of jokes the entire time so it makes it worth it. Hna Earl and I really have a fun time! We had dinner with the Leos family. Super Yummy! Hna Leos is an amazing cook! And her husband always has some really sage advice for us. He cracks me up!!!! I think I would probably describe him as a Mormom Hippee. He always has these really funny ways of helping us out. He is one of those people who really believe that if you imagine yourself having success(in anything in life) then you will achieve it because you imagined it. We had a lesson too with one of the mothers of one of our investigators and the lesson went great. She seemed super interested and wants to learn more. And she said she is gonna try to start coming to church with her daughter. What a blessing! Support systems are so crucial and she has her daughter to help her out. And hopefully her daughter will be baptized in April. It is wonderful. Tonight we also got our driving privileges taken away for Saturday because they were calling for crazy amounts of snow so we were really looking forward to another snow day like we had a couple of weeks ago.
Saturday morning we woke up expecting there to be inches of snow and being able to stay in our sweats all day. Welp, we were wrong It was snowing but nothing was really sticking to the ground... so we did our usual routine of working out and our 4 hours of study in the morning and our zone leaders ended up calling us and giving us our driving privileges back. Which I was super grateful. We were already doing so well on our goals for the week and I just really wanted to go out and visit some of our investigators. So Saturday we had 4 lessons total which took us to 21 total lessons for the week so we had already beaten our goal from the previous week by one lesson. It was awesome. And 3 of our progressing investigators accepted baptism dates. Super duper sweet. Saturday was seriously just one spiritual experience after the other. We were so blessed. We probably got less than an inch of snow out of the 9 inches they were calling for which I was kinda grateful because I still don't own any boots but we really really need the water. I heard that we are only at about 70% of our average. The farmers are probably not even going to plant half of what they usually do because things are so bad.
Sunday was AWESOME! We were able to meet with one of our investigators who we haven't been able to see in about a month and she could really tell the difference in her life when we weren't visiting her and she wasn't saying her prayers or reading her scriptures was awesome. That was really cool that she could see the difference. We are hoping to meet up with her again this week :) We also were able to meet with some really great less active families from the branch and I think we are really making a difference in their lives. Hopefully a few of the families will even start coming to church. I think I would cry. It is just so amazing to see the changes in others lives as they start getting more and more involved with the gospel. Heavenly Father truly is a God of miracles :)
So in total this week we were able to have 26 lessons, two of our investigators came to church (another one was going to come except his doctor told him he couldn't leave the house this week), 4 of our investigators committed to baptisms and we are really making progress with the members and the less active families. And who knew that you could turn 22!!!!! Crazy... So hard to believe. But it is super fun and a great experience but most importantly this week I think was the growth of my testimony. To be able to see how God came truly impact others lives is amazing and the ability that I have to share such blessings with people is truly amazing! I am really learning to love others and am discovering what charity really is. What a blessing it is to be here and to be having this experience. I wouldn't trade it for the world and I don't know where I would be if I wouldn't have chosen to do this. Heavenly Father really does have a plan for each one of us and we can figure out what that plan is by praying for guidance and finding your answers in the scriptures.
I love you all very very very much! I hope you all have wonderful weeks!
Les amo,
Hna Jarvis
