So Sorella Killpack and I grabbed my stuff and headed off to Rimini! It is
the beach and it is beautiful. I live basically on the Adriatic Sea-- so weird.
We dropped my bags off at home and went straight to work! That night we set a
baptismal date with a young woman-- she is amazing! It was our first lesson with
her and she is so prepared! She came to church and afterwards we asked how it
went. She said, "I'm really confused." I was a little worried but I know, the
first time can be a little overwhelming. And we have basically outgrown our
building (yes, first time I've had church in a church in 7 months) and so
we're all kinda squished in there. But I love it! It's the cutest church
every!
We saw her last night and taught the Plan of Salvation-- she had so many
amazing questions about what is going to happen after this life. Last week she
had a friend pass away who was only about 20 years old. She has been really
suffering because of her loss. It was so beautiful! She turned to us and said,
"So she is learning right now with me?" I had that greatest joy in my heart
telling her yes, telling her that her friend was even helping her understand and
accept this message and that it was no chance that the sisters found her the
night before on a park bench while she was mourning her loss.
I love my calling. We have been invited to study this transfer by our zone
leaders the topical guide for "Jesus Christ, Atonement through" and the talk
Missionary Work and the Atonement by Elder Holland. Already I feel like a
completely different person. It has been so wonderful to see the difference a
mission can make. I love serving with Sorella Killpack again. We always joke
that we were the worst companions to each other in the MTC. It's true. BUT we're
not those little girls any more. She showed me the first Book of Mormon I ever
wrote my testimony in in Italian. I gave it to her. Reading that reminded me how
much I wanted to share my testimony, how much I worked to be able to, and how
much I still have to learn.
We have decided for this transfer to only speak Italian. Six weeks-- no
English! It has been so fun! It's hard haha But worth it! I know that really
pushing ourselves that much further is going to bless us. Now, 2 days in I
already and realizing that my reflex is just to speak Italian. I have been able
to learn so many new words and phrases because I have no choice-- if I don't
know it then I can't say it. It has been fun to realize that makes us always
focus on the work! This next week we are going to be doing our first 2 scambios
(exchanges). I am so excited! I already love these sisters so stinkin'
much!
With tons and tons of love in bucket made of butterflies,
Sorella Jarvis
