Hey Everyone!!!!
How is life?!
Ian congrats on the basketball :) That is so legit! There is an Elder here. Elder Goodfellow and he is super tall and reminds me of you a lot! He is super good at basketball. It is pretty cool!
I got a package from Carra and Jess! That was so awesome! Carra- the valentines from the Primary Kids were super adorable! thanks for sending them :) And I've been really wanting a new toothbrush so that was perfect! Thank you so much!
Jess! The messenger bag is wonderful! Thank you so much. It really comes in handy! And it was packed with some brown paper to "protect" it and we used it to wrap some Valentine's Day gifts for some of the people we know so that was super duper helpful. It is amazing how, as missionaries, you think to regift stuff and use all that you have to give gifts to people since you dont have a lot of money. I love it!
Gabbie-- How was your bday?! Did you do anything fun!
Emma! Thanks for writing me last week! That was super fun. You are so great!
Sorry I didnt write on Monday. The library was closed and yesterday we had Zone Conference so we were busy from 9 until 4pm and after that we had a couple of appts and dinner.
Zone Conferences are the greatest! They did it a little differently this time but it was so so so much fun! I got a candy bar for it being my bday next month so that was pretty awesome! Elder Clay is an 18 year old elder from Danville, Va and he bore his testimony and he shared a quote that he got from his mom and says, "God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called." That was super powerful to me because it is so true! We are called as missionaries when we are young and as we learn to rely on God, He will help us to improve and guide us at every moment. What a comfort that is.
Yesterday we invited Andrea to be baptised! That was a super powerful experience because she is really coming to a knowledge that even through our hard times in life we have a Savior who is willing and able to support us at all times. She has had a difficult life but it is amaZing how the Gospel of Jesus Christ answered all the questions. Has all the questions and will comfort you in whatever experience as we are worthy and rely on His guidance. It is amazing also to see how powerful the adversary is too. As soon as we met Andrea and taught her the first lesson, a lot of things just seemed to pile on her plate and life just seems to be getting tougher and tougher but she is truly learning and has been prepared to hear this message. We will be teaching her the rest of the lessons and helping her to prepare for her baptism. It is truly amazing how the Lord works and how powerful He is. More and more everyday I see how He is blessing my life and the lives of those who are around me. Granted things are still hard and are super challenging but then God qualifies those who are called. He helps us at every turn and what a blessing that is.
Domingo had a baptism set for this weekend but we are moving it back 2 weeks because we want to make sure that he is understanding everything and has a few more opportunities to attend church. He is really cool and I know that this Gospel will help him in a lot of his challenges too. He has a lot of health problems but you can really see how God is helping him keep a positive attitude.
Umm... so I found out yesterday at the conference that it is essentially set in stone that I will be training in 8 weeks... It is terrifying! I am slowly understanding more and more Spanish but it is still very challenging to teach so I need to get on the ball and improve my skills. My companion from the MTC, Sister Seaborn, actually starts training in 2 weeks because we just dont have enough sisters to train. I am glad that I at least have a few more weeks because I would be totally out of the loop if I had to train in 2 weeks.... But it is hard to believe that I could be training after 3 months in the field. A lot of Elders dont get that chance until being out in the field for a year. We shall see how it goes though.
My Spanish has actually improved quite a bit. On Sunday I was given the opportunity to get up during Sacrament meeting and bear my testimony. It was terrifying but luckily it was just a little branch and a lot of the members came up to me and said they were actually able to understand me. There is an Elder who came out with me and sadly he has not improved that much but he is coming along well and hopefully will be able to continue to improve.
So tonight we have dinner with the Leos Family! Hna. Leos makes the most amazing food! I am so excited. We shall see what she makes tonight!
The branch is super good at feeding us so we are really lucky and for the most part all of the food is pretty delicious! So I am super happy.
Umm... What else... Oh so 2 days ago we went to go visit a potential investigator because we had set up the appt but her and her family were eating dinner so we weren't able to really stay long but we we knocked on her door, her uncle, Alfredo, wanted to talk to us. At first I was kinda nervous and wasn't sure what he was gonna say... Turns out that he has a daughter who is a member with her family in Washington and that he would like to come to church with us on Sunday to check everything out. That was a really cool experience and hopefully he will be able to make it to church on Sunday! We are praying for him though and we will see how it goes!
I cant think of anything else cool or exciting... I keep forgetting my camera in the car but next week and will do everything that I can to remember to upload some pictures!!!!
Missionary work is so great. I have had so much fun and I have learned a lot! Some days are tougher than others but missionary work is important and we want everyone to be able to experience the Gospel in this life. People's salvation is at stake here! So I stay positive and my companion and I work really really hard.
I love this work. I love seeing how it changes lives and I love seeing how it is changing mine. This Gospel it true. Heavenly Father has designed a way for all of His children to return to live with Him again and as we learn and develop, He will be there to guide us and direct our paths. Remember to say your prayers and to work hard to read the scriptures. It truly is amazing how much of an impact it has on your life if you do these things.
I love you all so very much and I miss you all super a lot!
Con amor,
Hna. Jarvis
