Friday was a huge holiday here, Ferr"Agosto. It's a made-up holiday but it
means that every business is closed and no one is home they're all at the beach.
We were outside for hours and didn't talk to a single person, kinda rough. And
it was super hot! We were walking in our little tiny town when all of a sudden
it starts to just barely sprinkle. Sorella Hamblin yells, "Oh!" And I said,
"What!?" She then told me that 2 weeks ago when she emailed my mom that Mom told
her when it rained to make me sing. The sun was shining through the rain and it
was hot anymore. I started smiling and singing as we walked down the street,
full of joy and gratitude. I shared the experience in church on Sunday and
started crying. The lesson this Sunday was from the manual on bringing up
children in light and truth. I am so grateful for my mom and how much she loves
me :) Something so small could take a rough day and turn it completely right side
up! I am so grateful for a Heavenly Father who loves and understands me and
always aware of me. For 2 weeks it hadn't rained and then finally it does, on a
hard day, which turns out to be mom's birthday. Its the tender moments like
those that make the whole mission worthwhile and that you carry with you
forever.
This week in the mission we are doing a Week of Consecration! It started
off amazingly well! We are completely busy this whole week! We've been leaving
the house early and getting home late. I've been feeling that kind of stress
that makes you want to smile all the time. Sorella Hamblin and I have noticed
that when we are teaching, when we are fulfilling our purpose we are so much
happier. We have been filled with a great love and desire to serve and it has
changed everything in our work. I love that I have already been serving here for
so much time and it can be a completely different area.
This week I have been focusing my studies on solely the lesson I have been
teaching. As I prepared to teach the Word of Wisdom lesson I was realized how
truly grateful I am for this revelation. We received so many blessings from
obedience to this law: our health is better, we are happier, and we truly are
closer to the Spirit. I have seen such a difference in my life here on the
mission as I have switch to always cooking every meal and incorporating more
fruits and vegetables. And I am grateful that the only dependence I have to a
substance is gelato :) But...that's ok.
This week try to sit down for a moment, take a deep breath, and count your
blessings. You will truly realize that even in moments of difficulty we have so
much!
Love you!
Sorella Jarvis
