What happens in a week...? update for Jessica 7-30-14

So I was talking to Sorella Hamblin last night about how our weeks here in the Italy Milan mission are kinda Wednesday to Wednesday instead of Monday to Sunday or something else. We were laughing about how our family and friends have no idea what we're ever really doing...all the shenanigans we get involved in. Well, I guess I probably shouldn't say shenanigans. This week was exceptional as far as crazy weeks go haha. But before all the craziness...

Last week: We had so many miracles! This week we found many new people to teach and none of them were really from our own efforts (like not from knocking doors or stopping people of the streets). The one the was maybe from our "own efforts" was one of our neighbors. He stopped us! He told us about his life, asked us why we were there and why we always said "Buon Giorno!" to him every morning. We are really happy to teach him and his wife and hopefully his adult children as well.

We also received many referrals from our members this week! This is the smallest unit I have worked in and I truly feel sometimes that is why they are so motivated. It's not the work of the missionaries to find new people and to move the work along. The members are the full-time finders and the missionaries are the full-time teachers. I did not understand that before my mission. But it is so true. When we can work in harmony and understand what each of our individual role is the work will move forward. I think that was one of my 2 biggest lessons from this week. That I am here to teach. That's my life and that's why I have the name tag. Through my studies of Preach My Gospel this week I read my ministerial certificate again. The Lord and the living prophet trust us and have entrusted us this great calling. We need to be confident in that and live it!

Another lesson was that just because everything doesn't always work out doesn't mean the Lord doesn't care. We had such an amazing week but it was also suuuper hard. With everything that went right 3 things went wrong. We spent hours sitting in non-moving trains and delays and cancellations and missed buses. But it happens! If everything is always perfect all the time we won't appreciate the times when everything goes right. We won't notice the little miracles if we never need a pick-me-up.

So now down to how this week got so crazy! Well, I spent the morning in Venice haha. Currently I am writing from an Internet point in Mestre. Remember that place? My home? My first love?? Yep. I'm here. I got a call on Friday morning that my documents were ready so I needed to come pick them up. Welp. That's a 6 hour trip-- you got it-- with a lot of train rides :) It was such a tender mercy! I got to see and talk to my new converts and members and investigators yesterday and I new that it was at the perfect time. Last night we stopped by some of my favorite people: Willson and Diana. Last year (1 year ago) when I left Diana was pregnant. We shared a message with them and I was able to share experiences with them from my very first transfer when I was at my most vulnerable as a missionary-- never knowing if I was a good enough teacher or if I would be, if I could speak and be understood, or if I was gonna feel like I was doing a good job. I was able to see the difference. From where I was to where I am now. I was able to see the growth and to remember what I was like as a new missionary. In my first transfer I got to go to Sorella Morley's first city in my first transfer and see how much she loved it and being here with Sorella Hamblin has been so special.

I don't know if this makes any sense...I am so tired haha. I just want to be home and get back to work!

I love you all!!
