I love country people! update for Jessica 6-18-14

We bought one of our young women an "american" burger for her birthday and they had a cow in the restaurant. This is what she wrote haha and then last week we had pizza :)

So many experiences and stories that I have to share!! This week was pretty good :)

Ok, a couple weeks ago Sorella Condie and I were taking the train when we saw a woman get on. I took one look at her and my athletic training brain said, "she's an athlete. what sport?" I narrowed it down to tennis but I just had to know for sure. After many mental prep talks I finally leaned over and said, "Mi scusi, posso chiedere una curiosità?" (Can I ask you a question?) She said sure, I asked if she played a sport, which one, and she said tennis. That was my in head. Then we talked for the rest of the ride. Her name is Alisa Kleybanova and she's going to play in Wimbledon. She was on her way to a tournament which is only about an hour away but it's in the Rome mission. She was like, "Oh well, just come to one in Florida when you get back to the States" Ha ha ok, famous tennis player, sounds good!

We had a regional conference for Europe 2 Sundays ago and President Uchtdorf and Elder Anderson spoke for the Bern, Switzerland temple. It was so great! We were late because there was no train but we got there at the perfect time :) The talk that President Uchtdorf shared was so amazing! I was so grateful! He talked largely about the need of a personal testimony. Moreover, a personal witness of Jesus Christ. One of my favorite lines: "The point is to receive [the witness] in our hearts and minds and know that it is true. Then live it." And then he said to, "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith." Powerful. I am so grateful to be a part of the true Church of Jesus Christ. We have living prophets and apostle that are truly inspired to lead and guide us.

Yesterday we had some crazy experiences :)  We met with an ex-investigator that I have been trying
to contact for 3 transfers. Her whole family is in the US and they are all members of the church. She is the only one left here in Italy with her son. When we first arrived she said she didn't want to hear anything about the church, she wasn't interested in changing like her family. But by the end of the lesson she had completely opened up. She was able to see we had come because we cared and wanted to help or/just love her not simply convert her or change the way she thinks. Right before we left she said she would love to have us come back because she couldn't change if she didn't first have knowledge or understanding...I'd say that's a good first step! So it looks like someone may be considering some life changes after all ha ha. We shall see... We just want her to be happy :)

It was really funny because her house was kinda hard to find...it's on top of a mountain behind a church so we did some hiking. We left the house and we had 3 minutes to catch the bus at the bottom of the hill/mountain. We started running. Then this old lady pulled over and said, "Arezzo? Arezzo?" Well she offered us a ride...and since it was just her and she was about 80 and it was the last bus we took it. Preach My Gospel moment, right? :) She was so sweet! She said she didn't really give people rides often but she said 2 girls running and knew that they were about to miss the last bus. She has a son that got back from a foreign exchange in California on Saturday and a daughter that teaches English. She said, "I'll take you right to centro (the town center) and introduce you to my daughter. And then you can go catch your train." Well that just sounds great! It was so cute! I love country people :) They're so sweet!

I hope you're all doing well! There's still time in the month of invites! Fill those church pews :)

Lots of love,

Sorella Jarvis
